The
first thing I need to do is to tell you what a "yooper" is. The state of Michigan consists of two parts; the
Upper Penninsula and the Lower Penninsula (to be clear; the lower contains Detroit, etc). The northern part is
the Upper Penninsula. It is also known as the UP; as in "you pea". People who come from there
are known as "yoopers".
Barack Obama got elected!
Some people are very happy; some people are angry as hell; the rest of us are hoping we made the right decision. We
are the Independent Voters!
This web site does not exist to praise one party or the
other. It is here to provide information you may not have seen before.
First, let me ask you. How are you doing? Do you
still have a job? Your house? Health insurance? Any money saved? Are you afraid of the future?
Your children's future?

OVER THE PAST 20 OR 30 YEARS SOME
VERY SERIOUS THINGS HAVE HAPPENED! LET ME TELL YOU A FEW. (I am not going to discuss the
current mess we are in now; I will do this later in the web site).
There are a series of "DID YOU KNOW" statements following; everything quoted in those
statements is backed up by more detail and source references in other parts of this web site.
DID YOU KNOW?
As you know, many people are
losing their homes due to foreclosure. To try to stop some of these foreclosures and help people keep their
homes, an attempt was made to change the bankruptcy laws.
The intent was to allow the bankruptcy
court to change the terms of the mortgage such as its length, changing an adjustable interest rate to a fixed rate, and
in unusual cases possibly the interest rate. It was felt it would be much better if people could remain in their homes
rather then lose them.
This change was primarily intended for people who,
if given a chance, could make the lower payments and avoid losing their homes.
(It seems, to the writer, this makes more sense
than the bank foreclosing. After the foreclosure, the property just sits empty and gets ruined)
The Republicans stopped that action
immediately! Why was that?
During the public discussion
of this change, it was noted the bankruptcy courts can already change the mortgages on your 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc.
houses but not on your primary residence! Well, well! Isn't that interesting! A rich person (who is more likely to have multiple homes) can
get the mortgages changed on any number of houses! The working person cannot get their primary residence changed
so they have to lose it! HOW IS THAT FOR TAKING CARE OF THE RICH AND THE HELL WITH THE WORKING PERSON!
DID YOU KNOW?
Since 1978, Democratic Presidents have been responsible for creating
One Trillion, Three Hundred Eighty Billion dollars of deficit spending. Over the
same period, Republican Presidents have been responsible for creating Five Trillion, Eight Hundred
Billion dollars of deficit spending! That should have surprised the hell out of you!!!
It certainly surprised me!
It is just one example of how distorted the news can be and how most of us are not as well informed
as we should be! A later page of this web site, dealing with history, contains a complete chart of the Presidents
and the deficits each created plus the source of this information.
DID YOU KNOW?
In 1965, the average
American worker earned about $14.80* an hour? At the same time, the President of his/her company earned about 24
times more than the average worker! That was fairly reasonable. (* income adjusted
to 2007 dollars)
However, in 2007,
the president of that company earned 275 times more than the average worker!
What does that look like in real numbers?
In 2007, the average worker
earned $24.59 an hour including benefits; the company president earned $4,606.25 an hour! In two days,
the company president earned $73,700.00! That is more than the average worker earned in a year which was $59,934.08!!!

study based on proxies issued in 2008 cite the following: CEO’s of top 50 companies earned $14 million dollars a year;
that is 438 times the average worker pay of $31.900. CEO’s of medium sized companies earned 9.4 million
dollars a year; that is 294 times the average worker; CEO’s of small companies earned 4.7 million dollars a year; that
is 147 times the average worker’s income.
Author’s Note: A never-ending debate can take place regarding what is included, not included, what is a large company,
what is small, which study said what, etc. Regardless, when numbers are as diverse as these are; there
is little doubt as to where the average worker stands!
DID YOU KNOW?
The top 1%
of the people in this country have more wealth than the 90% of us at the bottom, combined!

Said another way, if you had the wealth of those
people at the top, you would have more wealth than 90 percent of us at the bottom put together!! After that, all the rest of the wealth would belong to the other 9 percent of
the people just below the top.
Let me put this information into a real example. The United States has a population
of about 307,800,000 people. That number is too big for most of us to relate to.
So, lets assume the population of the United States is 10,000. That would mean
100 people (Top 1%) have more wealth than the bottom 9,000 (90%) of us combined!
I really need you to
understand how significant this is! So, what is wealth? Wealth is the value of everything you own;
your house, car, clothes, land, savings, stocks, and anything else you might own including your chickens if you have any!
The total wealth in the United States is a massive number. We do not need to use this massive number to make
our point. Using the same 10,000
people example from above, lets also assume the total wealth in the USA is $100,000.00 If everyone had the same
amount, we would each have $10.00. (This is not possible and it would be very bad for the
country! I do not, in any way, advocate such nonsense!) Using our example of
10,000 people and $100,000.00 in total wealth, here is what it would actually look like as things now stand. The top 1% (100 people)
would own 34.3% of the total wealth or $34,300.00 ($343.00 each). The next 9% (900 people) would own 36.9% of the wealth
or $36,900.00 ($41.00 each). The bottom 90% of us (9,000 people) would own $28,800.00 combined ($3.20 each). As
you can see, the top 1% have more wealth ($34,300.00) than us at the bottom 90% who have $28,800.00!! On an individual
basis that would be $343.00 each compared to our $3.20 each!
DOES THAT SOUND EVEN
REASONABLE TO YOU? COULD SOMETHING HAVE GONE WRONG IN OUR SYSTEM?
OK, I HEAR YOU!
Isn’t that the way capitalism is supposed to work? MY ANSWER IS A RESOUNDING NO!
I KNOW YOU BELIEVE IN THE “GREAT
AMERICAN DREAM”. SO DO I. IF YOU WORK HARD, YOU WILL SUCCEED! THAT
IS THE WAY IT IS SUPPOSED TO WORK. WELL, IT DOESN’T WORK
THAT WAY ANYMORE!
EDUCATION, WE ALL KNOW,
IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO HELP US “GET AHEAD”. THERE IS NO DEBATE ABOUT THAT! THERE IS, HOWEVER, REASON TO DEBATE EDUCATION ITSELF!!
DID YOU KNOW?
If you are the son/daughter of a low-earning father, there is a 73% chance you will
end up in the same place as your father? You will also be a low-earner. (That is 73 out of every 100 of
you!)
There is a 22.5%
chance you could end up in the middle income group (that is about 23 of you!) There is a 4.5% chance you will end up in the top 20% of earners! (That is a little more than 4 of you.)
Studies have shown
it will take from 5 to 10 generations for your family to reach these upper levels assuming every generation, after you, puts
forth this extra effort.
DID YOU KNOW?
Three percent (3 out of every 100) of low income students, with low math scores in the eighth grade, will complete college? Did you also know eight percent (8
out of every 100) of middle income students, with these same low scores
in math, will complete college?
Oddly enough, twenty nine percent (29
out of every 100) of high income students, with these
same low scores in math, will complete college! How about a picture of this?

Look at the bottom of the 1st column (LOW INCOME)
and then look at the top of the 3rd column (HIGH INCOME). Did you notice that students from low income

To say this another way… if you come from a low income family and you are brilliant, you
have about the same chance of graduating from college as some academically challenged student from a high income family!
To say this a little more politely, high-scoring children from low-income families are no more likely to complete college than low-scoring wealthy children!
There are, of course,
many reasons for this. These inlcude the influence and connections of the wealthy; the personal failure of all
people to put forth the necessary effort; the less wealthy students having to work while going to school and the
impact that has on their time to do the necessary school work.
Wealth and/or high income
has an absolute and direct bearing on opportunities to get a good education! That, in turn, has a direct
impact on your future income.

WERE BUSY TRYING TO EARN A LIVING, RAISING OUR CHILDREN, ETC.
Again, I remind you!!! If you are not wealthy, these numbers
represent YOU, YOUR CHILDREN, AND GRANDCHILDREN!!!

WITH AN AK-47 ON YOUR BACK, ATTENDING A PRESIDENTIAL RALLY, IT IS PROBABLY SAFE TO SAY YOU ARE “FAR RIGHT”.

ARE GENERALLY FROM “FAR LEFT” TO and including “CENTER”. REPUBLICANS ARE FROM “FAR
